TEAM TECH

Team Tech is a national competition run by SWE and sponsored by Boeing in which a team at the university works with an industry partner to develop a product. The company and overall project is of each team’s choosing. Teams are evaluated both on the end product quality and the ability of the team to work together. Project proposals are submitted during the fall semester after which teams may begin their work. The final report is due at the end of the spring semester, and the presentations are given at the National SWE conference in the fall.

OUR TEAM

Our SWE Section's Team Tech committee consisted of a diverse group of ten women different engineering majors, cities, and socioeconomic backgrounds

FINAL PRODUCT

In conclusion, the hardware team successfully connected the light to the battery as well as incorporated the software team's geographical tracking system. The final product is demonstrated below.

MY ROLE

As a member of UC Berkeley SWE Section's Team Tech, I was mainly a part of the hardware team. I focused on working with the other members of the hardware team to design and manufacture the lithium ion battery pack that the light required, as well as modifying the existing, wired construction light to be compatible with the battery pack. The battery pack consisted of ten 18650 lithium ion rechargeable batteries in series. We also used a battery management system to maintain excellent battery cell health through the pack to extend the lifetime. Below is a diagram of the battery pack and the connection to the light.
